Our readers visit an often overlooked spot in the Lake District

Thirlmere is technically a man-made reservoir comprised out of two smaller lakes and was created to provide water to the manchester area via the 95 mile Thirlmere Aqueduct.

You can also appreciate the impressive peak of Helvellyn from the little road that threads its way along the west shore.

It was announced in February 2018 that controversial plans for two sets of zip wires across Thirlmere were withdrawn by the applicants.
