It’s one of the hardest jobs of the year, but also one of the most enjoyable. Our judges will this month begin the task of choosing a top three from the thousands of brilliant photographs submitted to our annual photographic competition.

Readers have been out and about across the county since the competition was launched in March – and once again the standard has been phenomenal.

The judging panel is led by David Pilkington from competition sponsors Wilkinsons Cameras, Lancashire Life picture editor John Cocks and editor Roger Borrell, who said: ‘Every year we say the standard of entry has risen, and this year it seems better than ever.

‘It will be a very difficult job to choose just three winners.’ The top three – including the winner of our new Young Photographer of the Year category for under 16-year-olds – will receive terrific camera equipment supplied by Wilkinsons.

Top prize is a Nikon D5100 and AF-S 18-55 VR worth 630, and the runner-up will receive a Nikon Coolpix P7100 worth 400. Our young photographer of the year will win a Nikon Coolpix AW100 worth 250.

The competition closes on September 14th, so there is still time to submit your best photographs of the county, and even after the closing date we’d love you to keep adding your pictures.

Our website already hosts the best gallery of photos of Lancashire but with your help we can make it even better.
