2020 interior design trends: How a fireplace can improve your home
- Credit: Archant
Mike from Focus Fireplaces in York, explains how a new fireplace can help make your home feel safe, comfortable and cosy.
Q: What’s the best room to put a new fireplace in?
A: A fireplace can go in practically any room, though most people prefer to fit one in their living room or an open-plan space. It creates a focal point in the room and makes it feel snug and homely.
More people are moving away from minimalist design trends and instead want to add character to their homes. A fireplace is a splendid way to do this and suits both modern and traditional décor.
You can also find an outdoor firepit or grilling stove for your garden that will keep you warm on a cool evening and is ideal for entertaining guests.
Q: How can I find the right stove or fireplace for my home?
A: The first thing to do is take a picture of any fixture you already have, or of the area where you’d like to install your new fireplace. This will give us an idea of what you’re looking for.

We’ll help you decide what type of fireplace to buy – electric, gas or stove – and what material you’d like it to be made from. We have a choice of marble, stone and wood fireplaces. They come in a range of colours and sizes, allowing you to find one that suits your taste and can fit into any space in your home.
Q: Who can fit my new fireplace and how do I care for it once it’s installed?
A: We offer our own installation service. This means after you’ve chosen your new fireplace, we can arrange a date and time to deliver it to your home and fit it for you. In light of the pandemic, we’re offering customers advice about how they can protect us and themselves during the visit to keep everyone safe.
If you have any problems with your fireplace, call us to book an appointment and we can take a look at it for you. We’ll also send yearly reminders to get your fireplace serviced. Call us to arrange it. I’d recommend an annual service to ensure your fireplace is safe and working as it should be.
