More than £125,000 was raised at the Mayor of Harrogate’s Magical Spring Ball and will be shared between five local charities.

At least 340 guests attended the event at the Old Swan Hotel, Harrogate, to mark Councillor Nick Brown’s end of year as mayor.

The ball had an Alice in Wonderland theme, with characters from the story popping up, tables named after events in the story and a themed menu created by the Harrogate district’s only Michelin-starred chef, Frances Atkins of the Yorke Arms at Ramsgill. The auction was conducted by Charles Hanson, known for his appearances in BBC television’s Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip and the master of ceremonies was BBC Look North television presenter and journalist Harry Gration.

The money raised is shared by the mayor’s nominated charities including Harrogate Homeless Project, Saint Michael’s Hospice, Harrogate Choral Society, the Cathedral Concert Society-Ripon and the Northern Aldborough Festival.
