The aim is to engage new audiences, new participants, new artists and new communities.

York Theatre Royal is the central hub for the initiative but with four already established venues in Easingwold, Helmsley, Selby and Pocklington. On Our Turf will produce theatre in the most unexpected places, making and creating remarkable events, festivals and performance in the county’s more rural regions. So far there have been four festivals around our market towns. #LittleFest takes place in shops, restaurants, squares, tea rooms, alleyways, churches, pubs, gardens and fish and chip shops.

They are weekends full of theatre, music, crafts, poetry, dance, storytelling, workshops, singing, making, adventures, eating and drinking. Artists from near and far come to peddle their ideas and imaginations. Among them is landscape painter James Naughton of Helmsley Galleries who will run a painting workshop at the Feversham Arms in Helmsley, as part of Little Fest, Helmsley which includes the Helmsley Art Trail, from Friday, September 25th–Sunday, September 27th.
