A glowing six-metre sculpture of the sun will go on display later this month in Goole.

The touring artwork Helios, created by UK artist Luke Jerram, will light up Goole Market Hall from September 25 to October 5 as part of Goole’s 200th anniversary celebrations.

The illuminated artwork has drawn large crowds throughout its UK tour and is expected to attract many visitors to Goole’s town centre.

Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: "We’re absolutely delighted to be bringing Helios to Goole Market Hall as part of the Goole 200 programme of events planned to mark our town’s bicentenary year.

"I can’t think of a more fitting setting than the newly refurbished Market Hall, where this internationally renowned artwork will become a magnificent focal point."

Sean Hill, general manager of Goole Market Hall, added: "We’re very much looking forward to hosting Helios at Goole Market Hall as part of the town’s bicentenary celebrations.

"We hope that as many people as possible will take the opportunity to get up close to this highly acclaimed piece of art during its visit."

The visit of Helios has been made possible with funding from Arts Council England.
