Printmaking fair returns to York Cemetery this September

A printmaking fair is bringing together a community of artists and their unique journeys.

York Printmakers, a group of artists based in and around York, are set to hold their annual print fair on September 19 and 20.

The event will be held at York Cemetery’s Chapel and Harriet Room.

More than 20 printmakers will showcase and sell original prints, including linocuts, etchings, collagraphs, and wood engravings.

Jen Dring, who discovered printmaking during a linocut demonstration at York Open Studios, said: "I was instantly fascinated.

"I've never looked back."

She went on to take a course in the medium and has since made it a full-time career.

Jane Duke, another member of York Printmakers, said: "It's not just the element of surprise.

"It's the generosity of the printmaking community that keeps me coming back."

Roger Goldthorpe began printmaking after retiring and has developed a lasting passion for the craft.

Now 79, he continues to create original work, demonstrating that creativity has no age limit.

Each artist brings a different background and approach, but all are drawn to the patience, craftsmanship, and room for experimentation that printmaking offers.

York Printmakers has grown into a collective of professional artists, experienced printmakers, and newcomers.

Members regularly share ideas, encourage one another, and promote the value of traditional printmaking in a digital world.

The annual fair celebrates the diversity of styles, techniques, and subjects within the group.

Visitors can meet the artists, learn about their processes, and purchase original prints directly from the makers.

The fair runs from 10am to 5pm on both days.

York Printmakers said the event is an opportunity to discover unique artwork and gain insight into the creative process behind each piece.
