The summer show season has arrived. Here are five you won’t want to miss

5th & 6th August: Bakewell Show

Now in its 185th year, Bakewell Show promises something for the whole family with traditional classes, thrilling entertainment and colourful displays. Centre Ring highlights include Knights of the Damned, the Mounted Games, parade of the hounds and the grand parade of livestock. Competitive classes for horses, livestock, rabbits, dogs and poultry, are complemented by trade stands and vibrant food and craft marquees. The Showground, Bakewell, www.bakewellshow.org

8th August: Manifold Show

A celebration of some of the best local produce and champion livestock. The show includes classes for sheep, cattle, shire horses, rare breeds, poultry and pets, plus show jumping, carriage driving, vintage machinery and handicrafts, arts and home produce.

12th August: Ashover Show

Classes for light horses, livestock and horticulture, plus vintage tractors and cars, a dog show and colourful food and horticultural sections. Attractions for the whole family are enhanced by a large number of trade stands plus food and craft stalls.

15th Ashbourne Show

A popular traditional show with a friendly atmosphere, great entertainment and a packed main ring programme that includes Katie Cropper’s working sheepdog display and thrilling freestyle motorcross stunts from Jamie Squibb. Traditional equestrian and livestock sections are always well-represented and there’s an interesting range of trade stands, craft stalls and local producers.

31st Hope Show

A celebration of the past farming year and an opportunity to celebrate all the countryside has to offer.
