As a modestly sized Rotary Club, the Belper and Duffield Branch punched well above its weight at its first Midsummer Ball at Morley Hayes, raising over £4,000 for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance Service and the local branch of the Macmillan Cancer Support Services

The glittering event welcomed nearly 100 guests including the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, David Coleman and his wife Hilary, and the District Governor (Rotary District 1220) Peter Moralee and his wife Carol. Pre-dinner entertainment was provided by Diane and Nigel Scott who performed some Latin American dances. The talented vocalist Ernie Alan, from Chesterfield, and a local four piece band, Thunderbird4, soon had everyone dancing.

Club President Hilary Surga was thrilled with the success of the evening saying: ‘It was better than I could have ever imagined. Thank you to everyone for making it such a fabulous evening and raising so much money.’
