Celebrating 100 years of Tennis

Woodlands Tennis Club in Allestree, Derby, recently celebrated its centenary with a Vintage Tea Party. Its origins date poignantly to the end of the First World War when it was founded by the father of Miss Helen Marsh in memory of her soldier fiancé who was killed in the closing months of the war. The Club has been researching details of its history for a heritage project: 'For the love of tennis: celebrating our 100 years, 1919-2019'. The guest of honour at the party was Belper-born tennis player Andrew Jarratt, who retired as Wimbledon tournament referee this year after 14 years in the post. Mr Jarratt marked the 100th anniversary by opening the Helen Marsh Pavilion. u
