Cornwall has proved its position as the nation’s favourite holiday destination by winning the British Travel Awards for the FIFTH consecutive year.

Representing the passion felt for the county by visitors and locals alike, the prized title of ‘Best UK Holiday County or Region’ has been held by Cornwall since 2009. To claim the coveted top spot Cornwall pulled in the lions share of the public vote and beat off competition from destinations across the country.

Malcolm Bell, Head of Visit Cornwall, Cornwall Development Company’s tourism service, comments: “This amazing award is the collective effort of the whole industry and is a credit to everybody that contributes to tourism in Cornwall. A lot can change in five years but by winning the British Travel Awards year after year, it shows that Cornwall is adapting to market demands and even during uncertain times, is reinventing itself to give visitors reason to return time and time again. But most importantly, such a high profile accolade showcases Cornwall to a new audience which is vitally important in order to grow our visitor base.

“Cornwall manages to find a special place in the heart of anybody that visits and this award symbolises all that it great about our treasured county.”

In an equally impressive feat the Eden Project has also held onto the title of Best Leisure Attraction for the third year in a row whilst the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth claimed Silver for Best Heritage Attraction. Looe also added to Cornwall’s impressive list of trophies by taking Silver for UK Coastal Resort.
